Drive-in racks are designed to optimize available space and eliminate aisles between shelves by allowing forklift trucks to drive into accessible lanes. This system offers the highest use of available space in terms of both area and height, making it perfect for the high-density storage of homogeneous, low-rotation products with a large number of pallets per reference.
The LIFO inventory management of drive-in racks enables the rotation of products in a last-in, first-out manner because of the single entry/exit point. Pallets are stored back-to-back without aisles for exceptionally dense storage, preventing product crushing and offering damage-free storage.
This style system is an excellent solution for product that is not time or date sensitive, or for fast-moving pallets that are rotated frequently. However, operators must be very careful not to damage the pallet racking as a driver must enter the pallet racking system with only a small clearance on either side.
Drive-in racks offer floor single or double stacked pallets that are always accessible without requiring a special forklift. To ensure safety, a strict safety doctrine must be adhered to with a drive-in rack system, and any pallet rack damage must be reported and properly repaired or replaced.
